Canskate Ice Tykes – Learn to Skate program for 3 – 4 1/2 year olds.

Canskate – Learn to Skate program

Dance – Learning and practice of Compulsory Dances

Junior Development – Future STARS – ADVANCED PROGRAM – Coaches approval necessary.  Twice a Week Program for Star 1 & 2.  Group Instruction and Off-Ice.

Private Instruction Sessions – For skaters in the Starskate, Test and Competitive programs.

LEARN TO SKATE PROGRAMS – Fees quoted pay for Ice Time & Group Lessons (if stated). Skate Canada Fee & Insurance – $36.00 and Registration Fee $12 (per family) must be added to the price. All Group Lessons are taught by Certified Skate Canada Professional Coaches.

ICE TYKES (3 – 4 1/2 YEARS)

Group Instruction. 15 minute Group Lesson included. Fees are for one day per week for 3 months. Skate Canada Fee & Insurance $36.00 must be added. Skaters learn balance, control, how to fall and basic skating skills that include forward and backward skating and stopping. Skaters progress to our Canskate program. Child must wear a Hockey helmet, gloves/ mittens & slippery pants. No Skate Rental available. (Minimum 6 skaters required to run program)

Parent/Guardian MUST remain at Rink Side during the session

CANSKATE

Group Instruction. 45 minute Group Instruction included. (During the 1st week of lessons coaches will be assessing skaters and placing into appropriate groups). Designed for beginners of all ages and disciplines. Skaters learn and develop basic fundamental skating skills, going forward and backward, crossovers and stopping. These skills can be applied to both figure skating and hockey. Skills are arranged in progressions and badges are awarded. Skaters will also be introduced to jumps, spins and turns. Maximum 10 skaters to a group. Professional Coaches are assisted by trained Program Assistants. Skaters progress at their own rate. Canskate is the feeder program to all other Skate Canada skating programs. Once skaters have mastered all the skills and badges, they are encouraged to move onto the Private Lesson sessions. Skate Canada Fee & Insurance – $36.00 (if Home Club Kerrisdale) & Registration Fee $12 (per family) must be added. Fees pro-rated during the season.

Open Dance Sessions – ICE ONLY

These sessions are designed for both Recreational and Test skaters that want to do Compulsory Dances. Private instruction only. Skate Canada Fee & Insurance – $36.00, if Home Club Kerrisdale (HC) & Registration Fee $12 (per family) must be added.

Future STARS (previously EXCEL)

TWICE a WEEK Program for Star 1 & 2

Invitation ONLY – by Audition or Coaches

STARSKATE

Starskate ICE ONLY – DOES NOT INCLUDE COACHING. Skate Canada Fee & Insurance – $36.00 (if Home Club Kerrisdale) & Registration Fee $12 (per family) must be added. Enables a skater to advance more quickly. Lessons (small group and private) to be arranged with the Coach of your choice before registering for sessions listed to ensure lesson availability.  Session Criteria:

  • Multi Purpose (MPI)- Badge 6/7, Dance, Skills and up to Pre-Preliminary Freeskate
  • *Freeskate Categories – skaters subject to Head Coach approval
  • Junior Freeskate – never competed/up to Star 3
  • Intermediate/Senior Freeskate – Star 4 and up & passed Junior Bronze Freeskate/competing Pre-Juvenile and up
  • Future STARS is a program for promising, enthusiastic children who have been recommended by our coaches.
  • This accelerated program consists of group instruction, off-ice conditioning and on-ice stroking/enrichment.
  • This program serves as a bridge to the Starskate program.

NOTE: Categories subject to revision and Coaches discretion.

ICE CANCELLATIONS – The Club does not issue refunds in the event of ice cancellations by the Arena or due to mechanical break-down.
